作者利用擺輪慣量、振幅和振頻計算出擺輪系統的穩定度(balance power)
穩定度越高就越不容易受到外力影響
Balance power = 1/2 x balance inertia x (amplitude)^2 x (2π x frequency)^3
以下是43款機芯的數據(上色越淺表示越好)

從算式可以看出振頻影響最大,所以不意外表現最好的是Breguet的超高振頻10Hz機芯
(Harrison H4不是錶,Kerbedenz是錶身49mm、光擺輪就有27mm的巨無霸)
而公認走時表現領先的Rolex 3135和Omega 8500也都名列前茅

作者另外做了一個動態實驗,測量不同振頻從手平放到舉起時會造成的誤差
很明顯高振頻所受到的影響較小

最後作者提出了一個概念叫Horological Density Factor
HDF = 3600 x balance power x power reserve / caliber volume
這個概念是為了量化機芯設計的空間利用效率
因為實際上不可能無限加大擺輪和發條盒,只能取折衷的平衡
如何在維持一定的擺輪穩定度下又有可接受的動力儲存就看各家的技術力了

前兩名都是Breguet的10Hz機芯,尤其574DR遙遙領先
除了使用矽擒縱降低能量損耗外,顯然574DR獨家的磁浮擺輪更大幅提高效率

因此機芯的編排配置除了效率外也必須要考慮到美感
